“Oh Yes Its Ladies Night!”

On yesterday morning, it was announced that their would be a new show documentary series to come on the the channel “BET.” They later announced that the show would follow the careers and lives of the 90’s legend girl groups, Salt and Peppa with Spinderella, EnVouge and SWV. Each girl gtoup was popular in their own right starting with  Salt and Peppa featuring DJ Spindella. This girl group started in the late 80’s but flourished in all of the 90’s glory with such hits as, “Push It,” What a Man,” and “Let’s Talk About Sex.” The group disbanded briefly in the early 00’s to pursue separate endeavors but soon joined forces again and are ow touring all of the world. Next group that popped unto the scene was girl group EnVouge. This group was started in 1990 and from the very moment that created long lasting hits that continue to stay current and something that will always have your heart. They had such hits like, “Never Gonna Get It,” “Whats It Gonna Be,” and they also joined with Salt ad Peppa in their song “What a Man.”

Over their 2 decade reign on the industry, two of the founded members left the group with management issues and soon after they left, the two remaining searched and obtained another member. Just recently, the girls went on a morning tv show and stated that they would mind to another show with all members. Let’s hope that that may happen on this show. Lastly the girl group SWV. SWV (Sister With Voices) was founded in 1992 in New York City and from that very moment, they created hits that have went to every generation and probably will go to the next. With a plethora of hits such as,”Weak,” “You’re the One,” and “Can We” to name a few, the girls are known for their rough exterior but their sweet and innocent but strong voices. The girls disbanded in 1998 with the world wanted to know why. They continued to so solo projects but it never took off because people was so used to having all three. The girls got back together in 2008 to give it another chance and when that went well, they never broke up again and continue to tour the world. So my prayer is that this show will be a positive show and represent these legends well and who knows, they might do this show for other popular girl groups of the 90’s.

The Nostalgic Twins

On last night, I had the opportunity to interview a young lady by the name of Corey Wheeland who is the manager of her own blog titled “The Nostalgia Diaries.” One of the main reasons on why I decided to interview her was because we share the same interest for nostalgia moments of the 90’s era. Her blog is similar to mine but more advanced as she updates her viewers on recent comebacks of 90’s celebs also some moments in that time we forgot about that are so legendary now. I decided to take a leap of faith and interview through Facebook and within minutes she responded and below is how the interview went.

  1. Did you take any styles from the 90’s era and apply them to your life now?

  2. What was the reason for creating your blog?

    1. Going to the mall and hanging out with my friends. Malls were super popular in the 1990’s.

    1. 90’s film: Shawshank Redemption, Pretty Woman, Home Alone, Groundhog Day, Clueless…
  5. Favorite board games?
    1. Mouse Trap and Scrabble
  6. If you could go back to the 90’s to appear in wither film or music video or maybe both, who would it be?
    1. I’d pick video- Jamiroquai’s Virtual Insanity! Awesome video that would have been fun to be a part of.
  7. What is your favorite song from the 90’s?
    1. I Love You Always Forever- Donna Lewis
  8. Are there any other blogs you managed?
    1. Chapter 2 Creative, a branding and design website/blog, but The Nostalgia Diaries was my first blog
  9. Do you have any tips for potential bloggers who are just starting out?
    1. It’s a lot of work! Make sure you’re writing /blogging about something you love or it will become tedious.
  10. Lastly, what do you hope the message your viewers get from your blog?
    1. That being nostalgic is a happy, hopeful thing that can help make the future better.

The Re-Boot of En Vogue

The girl group trio that once included 4 members have reemerged and put out a new album since 2004. The original members, Terry Ellis and Cindy Herron have been in the group completely since the group started back in 1988. Although they banded together in the late 80’s, their first album didn’t come out until 1990. They group had many success in the beginning with such sings like “My Lovin’ (You’re Never Gonna Get It)”, “free Your Mind”, and “Don’t Let Go.” Although they had chart topping hits, two of the group members Dawn Robinson and Maxine Jones had problems with the group. They felt as though they were getting paid and treated well in the group and that they didn’t want to just settle with whatever the label was giving them. After their third album “EV3” Dawn Robinson decided to leave the group to start her solo career. Shortly after the 2000’s album “Masterpiece Theatre” Maxine departed from the group as well.

After that album, the popularity of the group started to decrease because many of their fans and peers felt as though that the group didn’t sound the same due to some of the original members were no longer in the group. With this change, the remaining original members welcomed a new member into the group. Her name is Rhona Bennett. If you were to see a picture of her, you will remember her from playing in the 90’s sitcom “Jamie Foxx Show” as the character Nicole. She was the last member to be put into the group that made the group a trio. Although the group have toured and been a part of different tv specials with the original members, they have still stated that they wish to not return to the group to do any new music. But we are all still being hopeful for a reunion that could possibly last like the other girl groups of the 90’s like the group SWV and Xscape. But now they have this new album out with new song hit called, “Rocket” this song and album has gave them new fans and potentially a new platform to have the success they did in the past.

Fried Green Tomatoes

fried green tomatoes

Valdosta, Georgia has seen quite a lot of celebrities in its life and it has also been set in stone as one of the places to do a movie. from Jamie Lee Curtis to Burt Reynolds both have been in Valdosta one way or another filming either a part of or a whole  movie. Although that is a wonderful trademark for the town to have, there is one movie that I cant just let slip away from people. That movie is the iconic Fried green Tomatoes. This movie starred Kathy Bates, Jessica Tandy and the iconic Cicely Tyson. This movie was filmed in 1991. It started filming in small towns like Juliette, Georgia and other parts of Alabama. Although this movie was not filmed on location in Valdosta, throughout the movie, Valdosta was referenced a lot, and that seemed to get a lot of peoples attention about the town. In the movie, sweet Ruth had an abusive husband who at first wasn’t abusive or so she thought. While abusing her, she didn’t want her son to be around the violence so she left to be with her family in Alabama. When the husband hears about Ruth’s escape, he recruited some Klansmen. These men were have said to be from Valdosta in the movie as well. One of the most iconic scenes in the movie comes from actress Cicely Tyson. When the husband comes to Alabama and tries to take the baby with him, Cicely who name in the movie is Sipsy, kills him and dispose of the body. When they have police officer come and look for the body, he doesn’t find the body. But what he do find is himself eating barbecue. But the barbecue isn’t actually barbecue, it is actually the husband he is eating due to Sipsy. When there is a trial being held in the movie, Valdosta’s name is being brought up again. This time it is a replica of the Valdosta courthouse to show that the husband is in fact from Valdosta. Although this gave popularity to Valdosta, it sometimes gave the negative reputation of it being a racists and woman beating town. But it just opened doors for other movies to want to be filmed in the historic Valdosta, Georgia.

Sister Act Reunion

Whoopi Goldberg and a few of her Sister Act cast members reunited for a special performance of “I Will Follow Him” in honor of the film’s 25th anniversary. The song featured as the finale hit to the 1992 film, which starred Goldberg as Deloris Van Cartier, a lounge singer who goes into hiding at a convent after witnessing her mobster boyfriend kill a man in cold blood. The Oscar winner stepped out onto the stage of The View Thursday morning to lead costars Wendy Makkena (Mary Robert), Kathy Najimy (Mary Patrick), Sherri Izzard, Darlene Koldenhoven, Beth Fowler, Andrea Robinson, and Prudence Holmes in a very much so nostalgia performance. Another story for the history books, Najimy described a prank they pulled on a hotel waiter: “[We were in] one of those hotel rooms and we ordered wine and fries, as one does in a nun’s outfit, and we ordered room service… and room service came up and right before it came up I put porn on the TV and we were both in our nun outfits, and I said to [Makkena], ‘Don’t you change it! Don’t you change it!’”

Martin Reboot

If you are looking for a great bit of nostalgia, then you have came to the right place. There is much speculation about having a “Martin” show reboot, and paparazzi have caught some of the actors meeting to possibly discuss plans of reuniting in front of the tv screens. Since the ending of the famous Fox Network TV show ” Martin” aired its final episode back in 1997, we have always wanted either a sequel or for the cast to do a reunion show for the dedicated fans. Well 20+ years later, us fans got a little bit of hope when paparazzi spotted Tichina Arnold (Pam), Tisha Campbell- Martin (Gina) and Martin Lawrence (Martin) outside a L.A steakhouse and after seeing this, the world wanted answers. In January of 2018, rumors have circulated that the popular series was possibly slated for a reboot due to a post that Martin Lawrence’s fiancé teased on Instagram, which made viral headlines to a popular blog The Shade Room. She posted a picture of the Martin TV show title card logo with the caption: “Got word from my fiancé that my favorite TV show may be coming back” ending the comment with the peeking wide eyes emoji and Martin replied to the post with the same emoji, which can insinuate a common nod towards each other. Hip Hollywood, another internet entertainment media blog, questioned Tisha Campbell-Martin on the rumor during an interview, in which she gave an ecstatic response that she can’t speak upon it stating “It has been an honor to be Gina all these years and its surprising that people still love those characters so much. So, I can’t tell you guys anything, but it is very exciting”. Adding insult to injury, a few days later during an E! News Daily Pop interview, she was caught off guard by the host who asked her about it, and instead of answering it, she jokingly denied it and brushed it off by changing the subject. Her responses caused an immediate interest from all media outlets to believe that she confirmed a possible reboot.

In that moment we felt like it could happen but we just didn’t know when. Although this would be a great nostalgia moment for the world, it would be bittersweet because we wouldn’t have Tommy. Thomas Mikal Ford (Tommy) passed away two years ago after suffering from an aneurysm during surgery. The cast reunited then to pay their respect to the fallen actor. So although he is gone, they stated that if they did a reboot, they would just have to be creative and find ways to be at the same level of the show from the 90’s. Every day on the set was a testament to Lawrence’s quick improv style. The comedian would often toss out comebacks on the fly, sparring with co-stars who would try to one-up him with barbs. He also played a handful of other characters, including oddballs like the loud-mouthed Jeromey Rome, the snot-nosed kid neighbor Roscoe, and the showy Sheneneh Jenkins. The show is regarded as a cultural touchstone, part of a 90s golden age where black sitcoms ruled television. A Different World was coming to a close; The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air had already premiered; Living Single arrived on Fox just a year after Martin’s debut. Back then, Lawrence was just an up-and-coming comedian, making his bones on HBO’s stand-up series Def Comedy Jam when he got his big sitcom break. So we can only hope and pray for this to really happen. We can only play it by ear and just stay close to all social media outlets.

The FX Hit!

Last month, some of the world was introduce to legendary fashion designer Gianni Versace. But for some of the world who experienced and watched Versace create master pieces in his prime had to come back to terms with the horrific assassination of the designer. One morning, Versace decided to walk to his local store which was located down the road from his home on a tourist strip located in Miami. All the while there were a crazed fan and notorious serial killer Andrew Cunanan who was planning to execute his next victim. As Gianni returned to his home and started walking up his steps, Andrew was headed his way aggressively. Before Gianni could turn the key in his door, he turned around to face Cunanan and he pointed the gun close range to Versace and blasted two bullets into his face. To everyone surprise, Versace didn’t die on the spot but unfortunately, he did pass away hours later in the local hospital. Cunanan was on every police radar in the world. He was known for targeting wealthy white men with money. He would have sex with them and afterwards kill them gruesomely. He did it to several men in different states. Gianni was his last victim because two days after killing him, police tracked him down but couldn’t capture him because he took his own life with the same gun. Fast forward to the year 2018, twenty plus years since then, the hit tv channel “FX” decided to keep their series “American Crime Story” going with telling the story and the behind the scenes action on the assassination of Gianni Versace. That previous year, they told the story of O.J Simpson and the murder he was charged for of his wife. It was a big hit and so they decided to keep it going. People all over the world are tuning in to see this suspenseful show and the directors and producers are not disappointing its audience for they have viewers every week tuning in to see why someone could just take the life of someone of that caliber or what was it so bad they did to deserve to die. Tune in every Wednesdays at 10 pm.

Xscape is back!

90’s R&B girl group “Xscape” is back with all new music. At the tail end of last year. The four girls; LaTocha Scott, Tamika Scott, Kandi Burruss and Tameka Cottle who at the time were all on bad terms came together to save their iconic legacy of the group from bad people in the industry who were getting ready to release an unauthorized movie about the ladies rise to fame. They came together with just the intentions on settling that case but they didn’t know that they would first have to discuss the reasons they disbanded back in 1998. Never the less, the girls talked about it in front of the world with a TV show called, “Xscape, Still Kickin’ It” on Bravo TV. They also set out on a all girls tour heading all over the U.S.  All four members of the group have re-joined the group with efforts to give fans an epic nostalgia moment. Although Kandi Burrus, one of the lead singers of the group has not made any new music with the girls, she plans on returning to the group with another tour and biopic about their rise to fame.
